MICHI is led from Osaka by editor-in-chief Shuhei Makigi and the MICHI editorial team. Every guide is researched, fact-checked, and published by people who live and work in the city.
Shuhei Makigi — Editor-in-Chief
Shuhei Makigi started his career as a newspaper reporter covering the Hanshin Tigers, where he developed the discipline of rigorous research and fact-checking that still runs through everything MICHI publishes. He went on to direct PR and brand strategy for more than 100 companies as a copywriter and brand producer, before crossing to the other side of the restaurant table: in 2023 he opened a yakiniku restaurant in Osaka, running a real dining business and learning firsthand what international visitors look for — and what lets them down. In 2024 he founded Stay Buddy Inc., which manages accommodation and inbound tourism across Osaka and beyond.
That combination — a journalist's discipline, a restaurant owner's ground-level knowledge of the Osaka dining scene, and an inbound operator's understanding of foreign travellers — is the foundation MICHI is built on.
